20 Stories High, a theatre company dedicated to creating art with working class and culturally diverse communities, have been working closely with Kings Leadership Academy Liverpool for over ten years. The Liverpool-based company regularly attend the school to deliver a vibrant programme of events designed to highlight a range of topical themes such as neurodiversity, racism, sexuality, and heritage.
20 Stories High have delivered a range of engaging workshops such as “My Black History: Exploring Our Lineage”, which encouraged students to explore their personal history through various art forms including poetry, song, and visual arts.
The award-winning company also deliver professional live performances in school as well as offering free tickets to their shows. In addition, the company runs a weekly youth theatre group which students are encouraged to join in order to express themselves and develop their creative talent. Many previous students of the academy have joined this group and gone on to perform in local theatres such as Unity and Everyman.
Hayley Keating, Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead at Kings Leadership Academy Liverpool, works closely with 20 Stories High and is delighted with the strong relationship the school has built with them over the years. She says: “20 Stories High have made us their partnership school as they truly believe in this community. All the work they do with us is free, and the students have taken so much from their workshops and performances. They also offer mental health first aid and signpost students towards support. 20 Stories High have become part of our school family and we are excited for the next chapter with them.”
