King’s Leadership Academy Liverpool is celebrating a landmark moment as its Principal, Mr Scott Cordon, has been named Outstanding Head Teacher of the Year – which is inspiring not only for the school and its community but also for the entire city. The honour recognises a headteacher in the North of England who has made a profound impact on pupils, staff, and the wider community. For King’s Liverpool, it marks the latest milestone in an extraordinary journey of transformation.
Earlier this year, the school was officially recognised as the 26th most improved secondary school nationally for pupil progress—a reflection of the exceptional strides made in raising standards, improving culture, and delivering a truly aspirational education for all.
Appointed to his first headship just two years ago, Mr Cordon has led a school-wide transformation rooted in belief, ambition, and care. Since taking up the post, King’s Liverpool has seen remarkable progress across all areas—academic outcomes have soared, student engagement is high, behaviour and attendance have dramatically improved, and a culture of aspiration now drives everything the school does. Staff, students, and families alike are united by a shared vision of excellence, and the school is thriving as a result.
The school now stands as one of the most improved in the region, at King’s Liverpool, students are not only achieving more—they’re aspiring more.
Shane Ireston, CEO of Great Schools Trust, said:
"Great leaders don’t just lead – they ignite change. We proudly celebrate Scott as Headteacher of the Year, not for following a path but for redefining it. This is leadership that transforms society, it raises aspirations and builds belief – CREDIMUS."
The award also recognises the collective effort behind the school’s success. In his speech, Mr Cordon paid tribute to those who have worked alongside him:
“To the Great Schools Trust – thank you for believing in me and giving me the freedom to lead in a way that reflects the unique needs of our local community.
To my Senior Leadership Team, our staff, and most of all, our students – thank you. Your passion, professionalism, and resilience make our school what it is. This award is a reflection of all of you.
